Saint Michael name means "who is like God" and he is the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is what the title "Archangel" means, that he is above all the others in rank.
Saint Michael is recognized as having four main roles.
- Leader of the Army of God: Saint Michael is the commander of heaven's forces, leading the angelic host in their battle against the powers of darkness.
- Angel of Death: Regarded as the angel of death, Saint Michael accompanies the souls of departed Christians to heaven. At the moment of death, he offers the souls an opportunity for redemption, thwarting the devil's attempts to claim them.
- Weigher of Souls: Saint Michael is sometimes depicted holding balanced scales, signifing his involvement in weighing souls during the Last Judgment.
- Guardian of the Church: He serves as the guardian of the Church and all God's People. Throughout history, he has been revered by military orders of knights and is considered the patron saint of various cities and countries.

Reviews
St. Michael the Archangel can be a frightening Saint with the victory over the devil. However, this very child friendly depiction is a wonderful way to introduce young folks to the Saints. This St. Michael is the traditional image but is in no way frightening to children. I am certain that this will be a beloved print in the house for years to come.
