On July 7 in Hungary, a little princess was born to loving parents. When Elizabeth was four, her father arranged for her to be married to Ludwig IV of Thuringia. She was sent to the court of the Landgrave of Thuringia for her education.
After her mother was murdered, she sought solace for her grief in prayer. Happiness returned to her though when she was formally married to Ludwig, whom she deeply loved. Together, the couple had three children and practiced their works of prayer and charity. When Elizabeth heard that Ludwig had died from an illness, she said, "He is dead. He is dead. It is to me as if the whole world died today."
After his death, Elizabeth vowed to never remarry and to live a life of penitence and simplicity.
