In Lima, Peru around the time of St. Rose, Martin was born into poverty and infamy. All he desired in life was to serve God and eventually he joined the Dominicans after many trials. He willingly performed the most menial of chores and cared lovingly for the sick and infirm. He was known for his great mercy to all and his gentle heart.
