Saint Gabriel ("strength of God") is the only Archangel mentioned in both the Old and the New Testements.

In the Old Testament, Gabriel appears to the prophet Daniel while he is sleeping to explain his visions. Later, Gabriel visits Daniel again providing him with more insight and understanding.

In the New Testament, Gabriel first appeared to Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist to annouce that his wife, Elizabeth, would soon be expecting a son. Six months later, he then appeared to the Virgin Mary to annouce that she would become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God.
