Born Isabel Flores de Olivia in Lima, Peru, and nicknamed "Rose" for her great beauty, Rose wanted to become a nun at an early age.

When her beauty began to attract suitors, Rose marred her face with blisters and cut her hair.

Although her parents wanted her to marry, they relented and gave her a private room where she performed severe acts of prayer and penance.

When she turned twenty, she joined the Third Order of St. Dominic. She continued a life of extreme prayer, fasting and penance until she died at the age of thirty-one after predicting the date of her death.

  • Contrary to popular portrayal Saint Rose of Lima (and many other Saints such as Catherine of Siena) was a only a third-order, meaning that she would have dressed in a simplified fashion of the times and only have worn the habit when she was buried.

We have made both options available since the custom of showing her in a habit is so ingrained that seeing her without almost it needs to be broken in slowly!
